Annual Events
Our Write-a-thon this year will be on Saturday 10th December in St Peter's City Centre Church, St Peters Street, Derby from 10am to 4pm. The Mayor of Derby will attend to sign cards at 12:30pm and Philip Whitehead (MEP) will be there during the morning. We also hope to see Bob Laxton MP.
There will be greetings cards to send to Prisoners of Conscience and others who are suffering human rights' abuses, as well as letters to political establishments seeking justice in a number of different cases. There will also be a stall selling Amnesty cards and diaries, candles and other items. Refreshments will be available until lunchtime.
If you are able to spare an hour to help out then please let us know using the tear off slip at the end of this newsletter. If you can’t help with the running of the event then we hope you will still be able to take 10 minutes out from your shopping to pop in and sign a card or letter and make the day as successful as last year.
If you would like materials for writing cards in your school, work or church, contact Margaret Tomkins.
Mayor of Derby, Councillor Robin Turner, lights a candle for the Russia Campaign.
He also signed a special postcard to the authorities in Russia.
Kaleidoscope Community Choir. Kaleidoscope is a group who sing a variety of songs from countries that prisoners of consience are held.

We have in the past had the pleasure of Kaleidoscope singing at our Write-a-Thon at St. Peters Church. Once again, we welcome them to the next Write-a-Thon (December 2006).
Bob Laxton (MP for Derby North) at the 3 Write-a-thon in Derby last year. Bob is seen here with our secretary, Margaret Tomkins.
