DERBY CITY RLFC was formed in 1990 by Richard Dixon, Paul Crowe and Tony Wheeler in the Blessington Carriage pub, Derby, with just the three of them holding the first training session at the Moorways Stadium a week later. Derby City went on to win the East Midlands Championship in season 1998/9 and in the summer of 1999 was invited to join the fledgling Rugby League Conference along side just 19 other teams.
With the phenomenal growth of Rugby League across the country and new teams joining every year the Conference now stretches across every county of England with similar Conferences thriving in Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
Derby City will play the 2008 season in the Midlands Premier Division.
Derby City is active in developing the sport in schools and colleges in the City and surrounding area and always welcomes new faces as potential players, spectators, volunteers or coaches. There is now a Community Sports Coach, attached to the club, developing Rugby League in schools around the area and in 2008 we will be running junior teams at ages u10 to u16, the "Derby City Dragons," who will compete in festivals and their own "Merit League" across the Midlands.
We will also be developing a ladies team in 2008.
