Fame comes to Derby Groups!
Yes, it really is Georgie Fame with Roger Smith (L) and Tony your Webmaster (R).

The man was in town the other night, along with his Blue Flames, heading a package of R & B stars who also included Zoot Money (minus the Big Roll Band) and Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers. ‘The Animals’ were also billed but sadly, only the drummer was an original. Still Peter Barton, their Eric Burdon replacement, did a pretty good job as did all of the bands and band members who had been on the scene for something like 40 years.

Georgie was happy to talk to Roger and I after we went backstage to see him. We also congratulated Georgie’s son on a fine guitar solo a la Jimmy Hendrix. Tony saw and chatted to Zoot, in the bar at the interval and they reminisced a little. Everyone was really friendly, but tired as they’re getting old(er). Just like us!

Happily we were able to be photographed with Georgie, for posterity. Zoot and the others, were more elusive when the happy snapper came along.

If you weren’t there, you missed a good night.

The Derby Groups of the '60s website is also proud to to be associated with "The Big Beat Bash". A reunion of Derby groups with a dedicated website - http://beehive.thisisderbyshire.co.uk/bigbeatbash/

Re-living our time in the 60s as the pages to the left show us is great but, despite all that's going on, I'd still like to hear from anyone who was in a Group or something similar, and which purported to make music, so, read on......and please contribute to our second site.

Check out "Update Information #3" which tells you what's been added recently.

If you're new to the site and want to 'have a chat about doing an article', it's not difficult - honest! Email address above, or go to the Contacts page.
